The feeling is the same as bungee jumping or skydiving for the first time which you have never had guts to try. You do not know where you are going to land or if you’ll make it without hurting your self.
Worst, you are afraid if you can get back in one piece; but you know deep inside, that if you are going to take the risk and force yourself to do this, you will come out at the other side with a lunatic smile, wanting to do it again.
After a few rides at night and you’ll get used to not seeing anything but shadows further than 10 meters and riding in a cold wind, nothing in the day world would seem so bad. You’ll also notice that it speeds up your reaction time since you have to react fast when seeing only ten meters of trail in front of you.
You have to be very quick on your feet, always ready to zig or zag in a blink of an eye, loft your bike’s front wheel over an obstacle ahead of you almost hitting it, or change direction almost in an instant. Reaction is the best thing, the nearer the misses and the closer the calls, the more exciting it is.
At night is a good time to explore, it is when no disapproving walkers are telling where not to go, or which place is off limits, of course, it is not as if you know where you are riding most of the time at night. Trails that you think you know like the back of your hands becomes a maze, but don’t worry there’s a big chance you’ll discover new trails.
If you haven’t tried riding at night, then you are missing out: Try it and see how Riding at night can surprisingly change your personality and reignite your mountain biking passion.
